BlackKeymaster
Unfortunately, I’m a console gamer. I say unfortunately, because there is a lot to be desired with console gaming, which we’re now finally getting closer to the computer gaming experience with Xbox One and PS4.
I love console gaming, because I love playing from a comfortable, versatile wireless controller on a big screen TV, from my couch. Sitting at my desk staring at a tiny screen using my mouse and keyboard just feel too awkward.
If I could combine the comfort of console gaming, ease-of-use (nothing to install or specs and settings to worry about) with the massive versatility of computer gaming, better online experience, community, modding and the massive extensibility and the access to a lot more games it would be perfect.
I think I remember actually reading about The Secret World, getting excited about it and then realizing it was computer only.
Just to be sure, I’m not knocking computer gaming, I despise that argument almost as much as the Windows vs Mac fanboy feud, it’s more of a can’t teach an old dog new tricks scenario.
BlackKeymasterAbsolutely, it’s horror… in fact it’s much more horror than typical campy outings the genre is plagued with (which have their place).
Drama and character building has a lot more impact when truly horrifying things, like the shocking ending of the mid-season finale of season 4 happen:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2948638/
I’m not going to spoil it. Horror isn’t just gore and death, true horror, is pain and loss, madness. Season 4 really delves into the madness of the character Brian (The Governor), probably the most fascinating and interesting part of the series so far.
BlackKeymasterI’ve never heard of “Dr. Sleep”. Is this unofficial fan fiction or actually a direct sequel written by King himself?
BlackKeymasterhttps://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086050/ – It’s from the same director as Jason Lives (one of my all time favorite horror films), but I’m not sure if I’ve seen it.
I’ve added it to my list of movies to see, I’ll let you know once I see it. Could even end up on this list:
BlackKeymasterFrankenstein ( 1994 – https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109836/ ) definitely.
BlackKeymasterUnfortunately, I wouldn’t know as I’ve only ever seen the film adaptations and never read any of the books, blasphemy right?
I love everything, I mean everything that comes out based on a Stephen King story, but since I never actually read the originals can I call myself a true fan? While I’m sure he consulted on many of the projects to get certain details right, he only ever directed “Maximum Overdrive” himself and the most successful movie ever made based on a Stephen King story, “The Shining” (which I love), King apparently doesn’t even like what Kubrick did with it…
So, it really is quite an interesting question.
BlackKeymasterBlack Orange is simply the colors of Halloween, though I imagine some people picture a black orange (fruit) haha.
If you’re interested in contributing a guest post, you can write about whatever you want.
BlackKeymasterAbsolutely, I agree. It’s fun either way. Some people are pretty poor sports though.
BlackKeymasterIt’s an interesting discussion because often there’s a divide between media depiction and the real world. For example, Wicca is a real religion (https://halloweenlove.com/witches/) no different than Christianity or any other religion, it’s just less understood in the mainstream.
So, it’s not a question of whether Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, Christians, Catholics, Buddhists, Jews, Atheists or whatever are real. They’re all real in the sense that they’re cults, religions, cultures, beliefs that people choose to be apart of. Their morals, lifestyles etc are certainly real.
But as to whether the “supernatural” aspects of what some of them may or may not believe have never been proven or disproven in the scientific field. I certainly have no idea, and for those that believe they do know, that’s of course called faith.
I certainly think it would be unfair to say Christians are real and that Vampires are not. And at the end of the day, people can believe whatever they want to believe, so long as they’re kind to others and don’t cause harm to them.
You might consider writing a guest post about Vampirism:
BlackKeymasterUnfortunately, for many years now, anything can be faked (and faked well). Especially depending on how good someone is with CGI. This definitely looks like video editing to me.
Also, just psychologically dissecting the YouTube user’s intent, it’s clear that they are fishing for people to find 1:20 themselves to help add a “I discovered this.” air of authenticity to it. But, if anyone actually caught something like that on footage they would have been enthusiastic to proclaim their finding and definitely instruct users to look at the video around that time.
More than video editing, this person is using subtlety to sale their trick.
BlackKeymasterI remember walking into the laundry room of the house I lived in when I was around 14, and hearing:
“Hello. Are you there? Can you hear me?”
In a muffled/vibrating way. It was so clear that I was frozen in terror. I finally got the nerve to look around, shifting my eyes very slowly, keeping my feet in place and noticed that the window was open. When I saw that, my fear subsided by about 50% thinking, oh it’s just one of my friends standing outside the window in the flower box. I crept over and peeked out the window and saw nothing, then slowly walked backward out of the laundry room and was hesitant to go in there late at night thereafter.
Later, just behind the garage that was directly connected to the laundry room, I found an old gravestone. Unfortunately, this was still at a time when not everyone carried around cell phones and digital cameras everywhere, all the time, otherwise I would have taken a picture and done some research on the name and the history of the house.
Note that neither the washer or dryer or even the heat or ac were going, it was otherwise dead silent.
BlackKeymasterAs long as there is always an option and every version of the film is preserved in high quality, I say go nuts.
The most obvious example would be the original Star Wars trilogy, which is a nightmare situation:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=229575
You may or may not know that George Lucas keeps going back and tinkering, most notably with the 1997 special editions where some characters were completely replaced with CG characters. This has caused a lot of controversy with fans, not just because he’s tampering with history and our childhood memories, but because he’s actively been trying to bury the original cuts not allowing proper Blu-ray or even DVD releases of them.
People wouldn’t care so much if he gave us the option, here are my special director cuts that are closer to my vision and here are the originals as you remember them, enjoy.
I’ve actually been getting more into researching the different cuts of films lately, notably Halloween 6 and Blade Runner have vastly different alternate versions that interest me.
I’m all for director’s cuts, remastering etc etc so long as the originals are also preserved in a very hands-off approach.
For example, would I watch and possibly enjoy a colorized version of Frankenstein https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0021884/ ? Sure. So long as it doesn’t in any way endanger the integrity of the original. As long as the studio didn’t just stop caring about the original and only gave special treatment to the colorized version, as long as we can still watch the original black and white version, who cares?
I feel the same way about remakes and sequels etc that people claim “ruin” the original, it’s just silly to me. Picture a room full co-workers arguing whether the cafeteria should serve vanilla or chocolate ice-cream. Why does it have to be one or the other, why not serve both?
Also, some films are actually shot in color and then released in black and white (so the color version may simply exist), I’m only aware of The Forbidden Zone, but I’m sure there are others.
As far as black and white films being colorized, apparently it’s a fairly common phenomenon:

Here’s an example:
BlackKeymasterNo worries, moved to the “Holiday” forum. Thanks for joining and sharing some of your Halloween goodness.
I’m looking at #3, pour a little cherry sauce on there and we got some tasty bloody brains.
BlackKeymasterRobert Englund hands-down, but to be fair, this is a lot like the Nicholson vs Ledger Joker debate, it isn’t really relevant because they’re playing completely different versions of the characters in a different story/universe.
Although, I thought the Nightmare remake fell flat on its face, that wasn’t due to Jackie Earle Haley’s performance which I thought was just fine.
BlackKeymasterHalloween being over? Don’t understand such a concept ;).
365/24/7 here on Halloween Love.
Fortunately, there are endless movies, video games and books like the one’s you create that can bring us enjoyment year ’round.
I would love to start up a year ’round Halloween haunt/shop of some sort one day.
