My Favorite Horror Movie Moments of All Time: Number 53 — The Thing

September is upon us, summer is slowly drifting away for another year and the countdown clock that silently ticks away at the top of this very page now tells me it is only 53 days until October 31st 2014.

To celebrate the journey toward Halloween I’m going to do something I’ve wanted to attempt since I first started writing here on Halloween Love … put together a definitive list of my personal favorite horror movie moments and scenes. I hope you will agree with some, maybe raise an eyebrow at others and fingers crossed a few will be pleasant surprises.

The Thing

53 : The Thing 1982 : The Dog Thing.

Today my choice is the mind-bending moment we get to witness the ‘Thing’ reveal its true horrific nature by attacking several dogs within the kennel while it transforms into an unexplainable mass of bone, flesh, blood and body parts … A shapeshifting nightmare that screams with the pain of a thousand different lifeforms it has encountered across the galaxy … Bring on the flamethrower!!

The Thing

John Carpenter in his prime + Rob Bottin creating unforgettable practical effects + A high quality cast working with a brilliant story = Movie magic the like of which we rarely see.

The Thing is PACKED with moments that have stayed with me and you can be sure it’s not the only time it will be featuring on this list.
