I can’t say I’m totally surprised, TV shows based on movies tend to try and bring a healthy dose of originality to the table and altering the look of the mask was always a real possibility.
Mina Lefevre, MTV’s senior vice president had the following to say … “It’s a darker, almost more grounded, evolved version of the mask.” “It’s something we’re constantly talking about. How did that mask become that mask? What’s its purpose? How did it evolve? If the Scream movie mask was the more plastic version, for a lack of a better description, this one is a more organic looking and frankly darker version.”
Apparently the mask will still be inspired by the Edvard Munch painting the movies share a name with, so it’s possible that we could just be talking subtle differences? Either way I’m very much looking forward to seeing what MTV can do. If they manage to capture the energy and mystery that made the first two Scream movies so great then they could end up with something a bit special!
I was personally hoping they would go for a polished silver ‘Look’, Damn it! Ah well, maybe things will get a little more JAZZY if they make it to a second season …
