Spooky season is upon us, and we all know what that means: Halloween events are just around the corner. Competitive gaming generally adopts these themes when fall begins, but most players are interested in how the top five approach it. Fans of CS2, Overwatch, Dota 2, Valorant, and League of Legends are particularly eyeing the news section.
Knowing the seasonal events when you bet on Overwatch is important because it dictates the liquidity, odds volatility, and public bias. It also has a great impact on player performance, roster stability, and tournament stakes. Bettors use this knowledge to update their bets and potentially obtain a better outcome.
How Overwatch Handles Halloween
Overwatch is popular for how invested it is when it comes to Halloween content. The “Halloween Terror” competition brings unique events every year, involving spooky cosmetics, haunted environments, and seasonal mechanics. Last year, they released a new Haunted Masquerade mode, bringing back the Wrath of the Bride and Junkenstein’s Revenge.
On October 6, 2026, they scheduled a new Halloween event for season 5. Blizzard has yet to offer details such as the full feature list of the daily schedule, but given the event history, we can expect the following:
- Thematic Content: The major seasonal event will likely have a targeted mode, similar to Junkenstein’s Revenge and other releases.
- Themed Cosmetics: Players have a chance of finding spooky skins and character cosmetics connected to the Halloween Terror update. While nothing has been announced yet, creepy critter styles and other aesthetics are also possible.
- PvE Co-Op Brawls: A feature that is centered around monsters, players will likely team up to fight monsters and other spooky bosses. These events usually involve new gameplay mechanics such as masks.
The Halloween Terror event is a popular option for players who enjoy the atmosphere, not just the skin collection process. Each season has its own features that make it special.
Valorant and Spooky Season
Valorant doesn’t have an official Halloween event or tournaments that players can join. Most of the Halloween-themed interest revolves around player cosmetics, weapon skins, sprays, and cards. There’s also the Night Market that’s constantly rotating and may offer discounts for selectable weapon skins.
Instead of going for a Halloween-themed team, most of September and October is occupied by the Valorant Champions Conflict: Frag or Die tournament. The Glitched-Out Mode (Gauntlet) is popular for Halloween fans because it features chaotic, glitched alternative game modes.
While also not a dedicated event, Riot frequently releases standalone Halloween micro-bundles when the season comes. In the past, players came across drops such as the Haunted Collection or the Troublemaker Capsule, which featured a black cat pumpkin theme. These could keep the Halloween vibe going while engaging in traditional events.
Counter-Strike 2’s Halloween Approach
Valve is also less generous when it comes to Halloween events, as there’s no official, dedicated in-game or seasonal mode. There used to be the occasional Halloween update for CS:GO between 2013 and 2018 that featured chickens in costumes, players becoming ghosts, and spooky makeovers. However, the company stopped making these events before they transitioned into CS2.
This doesn’t absolutely mean that October will be completely quiet. Unlike other games, Counter-Strike has a notable ecosystem packed with community. Valve also rolled out a CS2 update that lets Workshop map makers create UI panels, HUDs, and player cameras. This can help create a Halloween atmosphere that’s independent of an official Valve event.
Dota 2 Updates on Halloween Mode
Dota 2 doesn’t have anything officially announced for 2026, but it does have a tradition they uphold every year: Diretide. This is a five-versus-five mode that occurs in the fall and is centered around candy, fights, and point collection. Players find plenty of Halloween-themed cosmetics and rewards that can only be collected during this season.
Below are some of the core gameplay features that gaming fans are likely to find in Diretide:
- Taffy Collection: Players must steal taffy from their enemies or gather it from creeps.
- Roshan’s Wrath: Roshan regularly goes around the map demanding candy, so players must either feed him or face his wrath.
- Health Penalty: Holding Greevil taffy pieces reduces maximum health by 7.5% for each piece you carry. The goal is to transfer it to teammates or channel it to the Home Bucket.
- Chaos Phase: Monsters suddenly spawn, or spiders begin to explode, starting chaotic matches or shifting the flow of battle.
Diretide events are usually announced in October, when Halloween gets closer. Players interested in this mode should keep an eye on the news page so that they can be the first to join. The new events may include more features or different scoring systems.
League of Legends Spooky Season Aesthetics
Riot approaches Halloween in League of Legends in a similar way to Valorant, although it’s not as extensive. In the past, LoL had a long history of events such as The Harrowing, where players could enjoy themed content, spooky game modes, and creepy-looking skins. However, 2026 has no official event because Riot Games moved past full-scale seasonal events.
Instead of Halloween, Riot focuses on ongoing events such as the Hall of Legends, where they honor professional player Caps. The event includes cosmetic player updates, but they are not necessarily connected to Halloween.
Still, even if there’s no seasonal event, that doesn’t mean players can’t enjoy Halloween-themed skins. Riot drops them every October, usually from popular collections such as Fright Night and Bewitching. This makes the events feel more immersive and Halloween-like, even if the rest of the environment follows a more traditional path.
Halloween events may not change the actual outcome or gameplay, but they do make the atmosphere feel more immersive. Spooky season has a way of bringing adrenaline into the mix and making the aesthetics feel more special. For gaming fans, Halloween events give them an opportunity to have a different kind of fun while staying connected to the community.
