Silent Hill 2 Remake Review

The original Silent Hill 2 is just one of those games that changed me.

Silent Hill 2 Remake 526

Bloober Team absolutely nailed this remake.

And unlike a lot of people apparently, I had no concerns about that. In fact, not only did I not have any apprehension about that, I was actually excited when I heard the news that they were the team working on it a few years back.

I’m not sure I understand the sentiment of why people were worried, maybe just the nature of the original being so beloved, but they’d already proven themselves as far as I was concerned.

Everything is still there from the original (and then some): the great story, characters, atmosphere, terror, and what I think has always been the most important aspect of the game’s success, its sound design and soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka.

The sound of Silent Hill 2 brings you in deeper and more emotionally than anything else. If you’re new to Silent Hill, here are some samples from the soundtrack:

Silent Hill 2 was ahead of its time in terms of games that had more difficult, adult-driven topics, something that is common nowadays. It never beats you over the head with any concept or spoon-feeds you a narrative. It’s a deeply personal experience and with many alternate endings, it’s really open to the player’s interpretation of what it all means.

I have a wild fan theory that I’ll share in another post, but if you’ve never played, it’s a must. This is a top-10 games of all time type game, so it’s required.
