I used to avoid horror games because I thought they were too scary, but that changed when a friend convinced me to try one a few months ago. Now, I find horror games to be comforting and extremely enjoyable, even though my throat always hurts from all the screaming after our game. Since then, we’ve played lots of horror games together. A lot were a hit or miss, but there are actually some that stood out. Those types of game that I’d actually play over and over again.
Here, I’ll be sharing with you our favorite multiplayer games that are best played with your friends. Some of them will really give you that same feels from watching horror movies on streaming services. They’re really exciting if it’s your first time. Let’s start!
Pacify
Pacify was the first multiplayer horror game I’ve played, and I’m happy that it was my first. It’s a great beginner-friendly game that allows up to four players. There are currently four maps you can play: farm, dolls, woods, and headquarters. The difficulty varies, but what scared us the most was Dolls because the ghost there is the creepy lady you first see in the lobby.
It’s so funny hearing everyone lose their minds because they don’t want to deal with the jumpscare every time they get caught. One second we’d all be quietly trying to finish the objectives, then the next, chaos breaks out as someone screams and the whole team scatters in different directions. If there’s one thing I’d recommend, it’s to have a fast internet service provider so you can really enjoy this game.
Phasmophobia
After Pacify, the next horror game I got into was Phasmophobia. This one felt different because instead of just running away from ghosts, you actually have to investigate them. You and your friends play as ghost hunters while using different tools like cameras, EMF readers, and other cool stuff to figure out what kind of ghost is haunting the place. The first time I heard a ghost whisper in my ear, I froze. My friends were already panicking and yelling, which only made things funnier. This game never gets old. Trust me.
Left 4 Dead 2
Left 4 Dead 2 isn’t really a ghost game, but it’s still one of the best horror games I’ve played with friends. If ghosts are too intense for you, why not try zombies for a change? This classic zombie game throws hordes at you out of nowhere, and if you don’t stick together, you’re done.
And don’t even get me started on the special infected. The Smoker dragging someone off out of nowhere, or the Witch. We’d all be whispering so as to not to wake her, and then suddenly someone messes up and it’s instant panic. Half the time we were screaming, the other half we were laughing so hard we couldn’t even play properly. It’s literally how it is on spooky TV shows you watch on DISH TV. Totally epic!
Dead Island 2
We’re a group of four, but we didn’t know that Dead Island 2 can only be played by three people max, so we just played duos. By the way, Dead Island 1 allows up to four people, so we just assumed we could all still play together. That was a bit of a letdown at first, but honestly, once we started, it didn’t matter anymore.
The game is wild. The graphics are so much better, the zombies look way more disgusting (in a good way), and the combat feels super satisfying. We spent most of our time just messing around, testing out weapons, and laughing at how over-the-top some of the kills were. However, my friend and I easily get dizzy with first-person games, so we can’t play this continuously.
Wrapping Up
Looking back, I never thought horror games would end up being something I’d enjoy this much. If you’re looking for the next games to play with your friends, you’ll really enjoy these games I just shared with you. Just keep in mind that having a strong internet connection is extremely necessary. Otherwise, you’ll just disconnect over and over again, and it’ll frustrate the heck out of you.
