Recently, I was idly browsing through youtube videos of people wandering through abandoned places in my area, and I came across what seemed like another cheesy video poking fun at the idea of how utterly unnerving abandoned buildings can be. The music was a bit ridiculous, but I continued to watch out of mere curiosity, and about 1 minute and 20 seconds into it, I came across something that chilled me to the bone.

Now, it’s a little difficult to tell exactly what happened, but when you watch him turn away from the bathroom and glance into the lit hallway, it appears something small and dark flits across the camera.
It looked a little surreal to me. While I try to keep a skeptical eye about these sorts of things, I do find myself wondering exactly what could have happened. It’s too dark to be a lens flare, and too lopsided to be a bug flying past. In fact, it was shockingly resemblant of a small person — and that, in particular, is what unnerved me.
What do you think it could be?
December 18th, 2013 at 10:17 AM #1676BlackKeymasterUnfortunately, for many years now, anything can be faked (and faked well). Especially depending on how good someone is with CGI. This definitely looks like video editing to me.
Also, just psychologically dissecting the YouTube user’s intent, it’s clear that they are fishing for people to find 1:20 themselves to help add a “I discovered this.” air of authenticity to it. But, if anyone actually caught something like that on footage they would have been enthusiastic to proclaim their finding and definitely instruct users to look at the video around that time.
More than video editing, this person is using subtlety to sale their trick.

That said, while it’s a bit disappointing to come to that conclusion, it did provide great entertainment value for awhile that did leave me shouting into the microphone at a good friend of mine. So, even if it is fake, it served a good purpose and I’m glad I fell for it, if not for a bit.
