I for one am so tired of my favorite genera being repeatedly anally raped. All this found footage BS was NEVER good. And The original I Know What You Did Last Summer, all it sequels and other films that were similar were total abominations to horror. I don’t see any reason why they will get it right the second time. Hollywood DOES NOT know how to make a good horror film anymore! And about 95% of the independently produced horror films are just as bad or worse. I’m not holding my breath that IKWYDLS remake will be any different.

the original movie was better than it had any right to be but i’m not against a remake at all. It definitely has places where it could be improved and made scarier… i kinda hope they’d be able to cast Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. in some cameo tho, that would be fun. Also, personally there is also a late 90’s horror movie i’d love to remake myself one day when i’m done with film school so i’m not insulted by them going to the 90’s

I’m actually excited about this, and for the same reasons you listed. Slashers back on the big screen! I absolutely agree that there are just way too many demonic and found footage movies. I’m hoping this remake gets an R rating, and shows the studios that people are still willing to pay money to see blood and gore.

Between The Town That Dreaded Sundown and I Know What You Did Last Summer, i’m hoping we start seeing a trend of films being remade whose originals could actually use some improvement/updating. I also believe its beneficial to remake a title that younger audiences may not recognize, steering them away from pre-judging a film based on remake territory. Everybody knows what Friday the 13th is, but its pretty likely that a Friday night crowd of teenagers born in 1998 have never heard of I Know What You Did Last Summer, let alone The Town That Dreaded Sundown. Slashers and slasher remakes of the early/mid 2000’s were being pumped out like crazy by random MTV music video directors, and mostly all of the films were bad. I think the community now has a phenomenal batch of growing horror filmmakers who care about the genre deeply and will take good care of the slasher genre for new crowds.

I’d rather see remakes that improve lackluster 90s titles than remakes of great 80s movies that worsen the experience. It would be cool to see a more brutal I Know What You Did Last Summer. I don’t know if that’s the way they’ll go, but the presence of gore in theatrical releases has certainly improved since that movie came out.
