I think there were several variations of this. Always with the orange and black wrappers. But I recall some that just taste like molasses or maple, others as you said like peanut butter, and I remember some that were white instead of tan and tasted like imitation vanilla. In the 1960's they were usually not peanut butter flavored here on Long Island. They were maple or vanilla flavor.

Love Peanut butter kisses and have been talking about them forever. I love when you take a bite and get the splurge of peanut butter. Nothing beats them. I support them 100%. They are getting harder to find and they are the best Halloween candy

I look for these every year and this is the third year in a row I haven’t been able to find them in a store.
I look on line and the cheapest I can find is a 5 pound bag for $26.
How bad can they be if someone is charging that much.

Looks like the company that made them became defunct in July: https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Necco.

That said, these candies are probably preserved for years, if not indefinitely, so someone might still have them.

And yes, there’s still an alternative on the market: https://web.archive.org/web/20201101071726/https://www.dollargeneral.com/melster-candies-peanut-butter-kisses.html. These candies seem fairly simple ingredients-wise, so they’re probably pretty close in taste.

I can't find them anywhere this year. According to Dollar generals website they have them. I'm gonna check it out tomorrow. Sadly I think they are on their way out.

Haha great stuff man. I just did an internet search for these candies cause I did in fact get them in the clearance bin after Halloween and forgot how much I like them. I searched to see if they were liked or hated, assuming and being correct that they were hated. Those people don’t know what’s up. Thoroughly enjoyed this write up.

Oddly these were always one of my favorite candies and often the first items eaten out of my trick-or-treat bags.
