Honestly though, in terms of ethics, I’ve never really understood the model. By definition, the only way the model works is by cheating people. Otherwise, how is it sustainable and profitable? In other words, you buy a bunch of crap for X amount and then sell it for a more expensive Y amount.

Why don’t people just go ahead and buy the stuff they actually do want directly and save money? I suppose one could argue that the extra amount is justified by the fact that you’re buying into having fun waiting to see what you get, the curation of goodies by someone else, and perhaps also supporting a site you love.

Even though what I was doing was more unique and fair than the traditional mystery box, I had to close the Trick ‘r Treat Club because I couldn’t figure out a way to make it sustainable. I mean, it was fun, and people were having fun, but it just didn’t make sense and I was always concerned about someone being upset exactly as you are here.

I’ve had Nerd Block for about a year now and I haven’t had any problems with them. Customer Service is always helpful and the things inside the boxes are usually good quality made items.

It definitely sounds well worth the $30, but I wish they were up front about it. Thought I’d found a perfect gift, but it was a rude awakening at check-out. Had to cancel at the last minute. It just felt shady.

Sorry Chris but Horror Block is probably the best of the lot , not a disappointment in the least , not even remotely close to being a rip off , but hey some people want to pay a dollar and get a hundred dollars worth.

It’s the only guarantee box, though. In each box you get a $9.95 issue of Rue Morgue plus a t-shirt (valued conservatively at $15.00), plus random horror merch. The first two boxes had oversized Funko toys that retail for $20.00+. It’s definitely the safest bet of the horror sub boxes and by far, my fav. Box of a Dread has been a big let down for me.

Still, with the Rue and the shirt, anything else in the box is frosting.
