We all know how that plays out. (2) The police officer who arrives in time to save a victim, maybe even makes a vehicle stop, somehow never radios in what he’s doing, his location, the license plate of the vehicle, or any other info that is standard procedure for obvious reasons. In this movie it’s even worse, because even after the officer is shot and knows the identity of the kidnapped victim, he once again goes to investigate by himself, gets killed, and surprise – still never called in anything. OK… (3) The victims continually get the upper hand on the psychopaths, but then fail to follow through with a kill. And of course they then drop their weapons and run away, with predictible results. I still enjoyed the movie, but disagree that it feels realistic or that it rises above the usual banal horror movie copouts.

Sounds pretty fantastic. (And while I generally shy from Troma, I’ve always had a soft spot for Mother’s Day. The feel and flavor of it was like what I’d always expected scary movies to be like, as a kid looking at video store boxes.)

There is one aspect of the original that I’m hoping this one keeps… but it’s too spoilery to mention.
