Then again, the movie was pretty bad and bored me silly, so perhaps any so-called messages or commentary just went unseen as a result.

This isn’t something I’m adding to the film, Treavor. It’s a theme present within the film, and if you go back and rewatch it, you’ll notice that Hooper isn’t subtle about what he’s saying with it.

Whether you agree with the point of it or not, is irrelevant. This is absolutely the over-riding theme in the film, and the whole movie uses this premise to create an absolutely visceral horror experience.

It’s right there in the dialogue and imagery. There’s no question that the filmmakers’ intention was to call attention to the concerns of what it means to kill in order to eat. Next time you watch the movie, keep that in mind, and you can’t miss it.
