So, would Alice Robb have the same comments about Hamlet in which a ghost tells his son to avenge his death. There are eight deaths in the play, including King Claudius’. The play is a “tragedy”, the precursor to today’s horror films. Why would anyone go to a play to witness such horrors? It’s all so tragic that only the perverted and insane could possibly derive enjoyment from it. I guess Ms. Robb has never heard of catharsis.

So sad to see that yet again lovers of the horror genre are under attack with useless stats and generalizations. And losing a job working with children over it? That’s awful! My students ( age 3-5) and their parents never cared one bit about what I used to watch in my spare time. And when I taught Shakespeare to them, imagine my surprise when half of them came dressed as witches spouting “bubble, bubble, toil and trouble” or dressed carrying Yorick’s skull. Oh the horror of exposing them to the world! What can become of that?? And god forbid showing them art of any kind that depicts scary stuff. Alice must lead a very boring life indeed. Me? I think I’ll pop in a few of my faves and watch them in her honour of my depraved comrades. SIGH.

It’s insane that anybody thinks this way in 2015. Horror is as mainstream as any other genre at this point, often hitting number one spots at the box office. I guess my 55 year old father who works a desk job is going to become a serial killer tomorrow because he saw The Woman in Black 2, right? Horror is also VERY influential to other genres and is just packaged differently to pull a blindfold over ignorant people like this woman. Example:

Battle Royale: “People slaughtering people to stay alive. Disgusting aggressive bullshit.”

The Hunger Games: “Ooooh Jennifer Lawrence slaughtering people to stay alive! Lorde soundtrack? Bring the whole family!”
