I felt that way about Blair Witch for a while. Finally revisited it a few years back, and I made sure that I was home alone and it was very late at night. Still as effective as ever, that movie.

Oh boy, when they show that little kid in the corner of the room, before he does his dance, that is absolutely bone-chilling. Didn’t notice it the first time, but now I can’t ever un-see it!

I guess for me as a kid what stands out the most is the Tarman scene in The Return of the Living Dead. Don’t know why I was watching that as an 8-year-old but it was sure creepy.

It also has one of my all-time favorite lines: “Never, never, never…throw chips at a driver.”

Yeah, I think I watched it alone in the dark the first time, which surely helped. What other movies, out of curiosity? I kind of feel that way about Martyrs, though I watched it again recently.

That’s one of my favorites, and probably Carpenter’s most underrated in my opinion. I’ve thought about that scene many times while driving backroads at night. I also love Sam Neill in it.

Funny you say that because I too refrain from revisiting The Eye. I think the first time I watched it under the absolute perfect conditions, and don’t have much of a desire to tarnish that memorable experience. I feel that way about a few movies, actually.
