With the exception of the short-lived television series and the recently released fifth film, I enjoy the first four films immensely and recommend them to almost everybody. Your comparisons to similar ’80’s classics like Ghostbusters and Gremlins are spot-on. All of those movies are genre-blends and yet somehow they manage to hit their tone perfectly.

I don’t know if you’ve had a chance to see Krampus or Deadpool recently, but they recall the same subversive vibes, for my part. I never cared much for ’80’s music, but as far as tone and mainstream characterizations are concerned, that decade was a blockbuster golden age in filmmaking as far as I’m concerned.
