What bugged me most was the attitude that Platinum Dunes had promoting it. There was a lot of talk about how this Freddy was going to be darker and less funny than 80’s Freddy but in the end I found him just as quippy. There was one joke he cracked about petting the dog that I thought was a bigger groaner than anything in “Dream Child”. I thought “Freddy vs Jason” did a good job of returning Freddy to his nasty roots without messing with the back story. The only good thing I’ve found that came from the remake is the fanedit “Dream Maniac”. I haven’t seen the finished version but I followed it’s progress on the FanEdit message boards for awhile. The goal was to make the remake look like a sleazy vhs rental of a cheap eighties slasher. They even use the Freddy’s Nightmares theme song in the edit which gets bonus points. It looks awesome. The actual remake was not.
