In fact, I wouldn’t mind getting one of these every year. I like this one even better than the original movie graphic novel tie-in. Some of the art styles in that one didn’t do it for me.
But I do have one concern with Days of the Dead. Sam really has nothing to do in any of these stories. I get that it is meant to show that he has always been there watching over Halloween. But really, footy pajamas in 1640 Ireland? This graphic novel depicts Sam almost as an all poweful God like being rather than a demonic trick or treater. I want to see Sam being that mischevious little demon (he never even removes his mask in these stories) running around pranking, tormenting assholes like Mr. Kreeg and yes, even killing those who break the rules of Halloween. The Monster Mash story shows a reaper type character that seems to be in charge and I like that idea better. If Sam was some god like being why would he appear as a costumed child way back before the custom was even invented?
I don’t think I need an origin story for Sam but I do think they need to decide what he is before finalizing the script for a sequel.
