My Favorite Horror Movie Moments of All Time: Number 52 — Halloween H20

September is upon us, summer is slowly drifting away for another year and the countdown clock that silently ticks away at the top of this very page now tells me it is only 52 days until October 31st 2014.

To celebrate the journey toward Halloween I’m going to do something I’ve wanted to attempt since I first started writing here on Halloween Love … put together a definitive list of my personal favorite horror movie moments and scenes. I hope you will agree with some, maybe raise an eyebrow at others and fingers crossed a few will be pleasant surprises.

Halloween H20

52 : Halloween H20 1998 : Family Reunion.

I’m fond of ALMOST every movie that features Michael Myers doing his thing, but H20 was a very big deal to me. Laurie Strode was back for the first time since Halloween 2 and when she finally got to look into the eyes of her malevolent and unstoppable brother it felt epic and comfortingly familiar.

If you can ignore the fact Michael wears about 3 different masks in this scene then it plays out very well. The dropping of the keys is especially intense as Myers calmly scoops them up and robotically tries each one in turn, hoping to gain access to John and Molly who are trapped on the other side of the locked gate.

Halloween H20

Halloween H20 is what I call diluted horror. It has some cool scares and cleverly constructed moments but it’s a very ‘safe’ movie. If you were an experienced gore fiend then it might have been a disappointment, BUT I’m a huge fan and always have been. It’s a polished crowd pleaser that brought the story to a satisfying conclusion … Until Resurrection showed up, but the less said about that the better.
