My Favorite Horror Movie Moments of All Time: Number 47 — Misery

Misery

To celebrate the journey toward Halloween 2014 I’m going to do something I’ve wanted to attempt since I first started writing here on Halloween Love …put together a definitive list of my personal favorite horror movie moments and scenes.

I hope you will agree with some, maybe raise an eyebrow at others and fingers crossed a few will be pleasant surprises.

Misery

47 : Misery 1990 : Hobbling.

Quite possibly one of the most wince-inducing moments in cinema history. When you first notice that Paul Sheldon (James Caan), has been tied to the bed by Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), it’s pretty obvious something bad is about to happen, but the combination of Annie talking softly with calm menace and the gentle music that plays in the background just increases the already near unbearable tension to legendary heights. What follows doesn’t feature any blood or gore, it’s not necessary here … just the sound of fragile, snapping bones and the knowledge that in real life this would hurt SO bad.

Misery

Misery is minimalist perfection. Two main characters, one location, and a huge amount of high quality acting.
