Father’s Day Parenting Tips: Featuring Some Familiar Horror Dads

Father's Day Horror List

I’m a Dad to two amazing kids and it truly is the most rewarding, amazing, challenging and magical experience you will ever have during your short time on this planet. I believe that there are no fixed rules to being a good parent, everybody is different. You just love them as much as you can, guide them, protect them, and give it 100% every single day.

I recently read a cheesy online article which listed ‘tips and advice’ that it claimed would lead to perfect parenting … I REALLY must be watching far too much horror because with every entry in the list I just found my mind wandering to different fathers in horror movies and how the comments reminded me of these fictional dads.

Let’s take a little look …

The Shining Father

“Avoid harsh discipline. Talk with and listen to your child. It’s important to make eye contact and use gentle touch when communicating with your kids.”

The People Under The Stairs

“If you have a partner/wife work with them as a team and show the kids you are united. Find out each others strong parenting style, strategize and compliment each other.”

The Mist

“Make time for family activities. Use this time to discuss need and feelings, to solve problems and promote cooperation.”

A Nightmare on Elm Street

“Show children how tasks should be done. Be clear with your expectations. Kids are imitators and they do much better when they are shown how to do something.”

Creepshow

“Keep you sense of humour! Nobody said parenthood would be easy … If you can survive parenthood … you can survive anything!!”

The Walking Dead

“Be a good role model. You are your child’s first and most influential teacher. Your children learn by watching you!”

The Omen

“Cherish your child’s individuality. Praise your children’s differences and avoid comparing them or asking why they can’t be like someone else!”

The Loved Ones

“You cannot be too loving. It is simply not possible to spoil a child with love.”

See what I mean!!

To all Fathers out there, real AND fictional, I salute you.
